The knitting club began in the early 1990's with Jenny Castex and a small group of five woman. They met in the small house at 1510 Kingston Avenue. The women knit or crocheted mittens, hats, and scarves which were distributed to the needy at Christmas time. Bigger projects included lap robes for those at area nursing homes. Over the years the group has increased to about twenty members. Now the members are making children's sweaters for distribution to the needy overseas as well as a variety of other things.
Since the renovation of the house to make the parish office, the knitting club meets in Monsignor Kreuzer Hall on Thursday evenings. This Corporal Work of Mercy is complimented by socializing at the same time and a dinner out at the end of May. The individual members may continue their projects on their own during the summer and start up again in the September.
